Fleet Education Services is seeking dedicated and compassionate Mentors to support learners across Southwark. Working on a one-to-one basis, you'll help young people develop confidence, resilience, independence, and engagement with education while supporting them to achieve their personal goals and aspirations.

 

What You'll Need

  • Experience working with young people in schools, colleges, alternative provision, specialist settings, or PRUs.
  • Experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
  • Confidence delivering personalised one-to-one mentoring and building positive relationships with learners and families.
  • An understanding of strategies that support engagement, emotional regulation, wellbeing, and resilience.
  • The ability to motivate young people and help them work towards personal, educational, or future goals.
  • Knowledge of local services, community resources, and opportunities is desirable.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK without restrictions.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered to the DBS Update Service and cleared against the Children's Barred List.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver tailored one-to-one mentoring sessions in learners' homes.
  • Build trusted relationships with learners and their families.
  • Identify barriers affecting attendance, engagement, confidence, wellbeing, or progression.
  • Create and deliver personalised support plans and learner-led activities.
  • Support learners to build confidence, resilience, independence, and positive routines.
  • Encourage engagement with education, community opportunities, and future pathways.
  • Complete assessments, Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), and session reports.
  • Work collaboratively with parents/carers to support positive outcomes for learners.

Depending on the learner and mentoring pathway, support may include:

Attendance & Engagement
  • Re-engagement with education and learning.
  • Building confidence around attendance and participation.
  • Emotional regulation and anxiety management.
  • Developing positive routines and readiness for learning.
  • Strengthening resilience and self-esteem.
Progression & Independence
  • Study skills and preparation for further education.
  • Life skills, including time management, organisation, budgeting, and healthy living.
  • Social skills and community engagement.
  • Career exploration, CV development, and employability skills.
  • Planning future pathways into education, training, volunteering, or employment

 

Important Information

Mentors do not provide academic tuition, personal care, or medical support.

Following application and screening, successful candidates may be matched to either Attendance Mentoring or Progression Mentoring, depending on their skills, experience, and the needs of learners.

Any visits to community amenities or local activities must be accompanied by a parent or carer.
