Salary
£55,000–£70,000 per annum (depending on experience) plus performance bonus
Hours
Full-time, 40 hours per week, with participation in the on-call rota.
Reports to
Responsible Individual / Directors
The Registered Manager is responsible for the leadership, management and day-to-day operation of the children's home, ensuring the highest standards of care, safeguarding and regulatory compliance. The post holder will create a nurturing, therapeutic and child-centred environment where children and young people can achieve positive outcomes and reach their full potential.
The Registered Manager will ensure the home complies with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards, and all relevant legislation, while maintaining a positive relationship with Ofsted, local authorities and partner agencies.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Provide strong, effective leadership to the staff team.
- Recruit, supervise, develop and retain high-performing staff.
- Promote a positive, inclusive and child-centred culture.
- Manage staffing levels, rotas and on-call arrangements.
- Lead team meetings, supervision sessions and annual appraisals.
Quality of Care
- Ensure children receive safe, high-quality, individualised care.
- Promote positive behaviour support and trauma-informed practice.
- Ensure care plans, risk assessments and placement plans are implemented and regularly reviewed.
- Encourage children's education, health, independence and emotional wellbeing.
- Ensure children participate in decisions affecting their lives.
Safeguarding
- Promote safeguarding as the highest priority.
- Ensure all safeguarding concerns are reported and managed appropriately.
- Maintain compliance with statutory safeguarding guidance.
- Work closely with social workers, police, education providers and healthcare professionals.
Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain full compliance with:

- Prepare the home for Ofsted inspections.
- Complete Regulation 45 quality of care reviews.

Operational Management
- Manage referrals and admissions.
- Ensure appropriate matching of children.
- Monitor occupancy levels.
- Manage budgets effectively.
- Maintain accurate records and management information.
Partnership Working
- Build positive relationships with commissioners and local authorities.
- Attend professionals' meetings and reviews.
- Work collaboratively with external agencies.
- Represent the organisation professionally.
Continuous Improvement
- Monitor performance against quality indicators.
- Implement service improvements.
- Analyse incidents, complaints and compliments.
- Promote learning and reflective practice.
Person Specification
Essential
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent), or willingness to achieve within the required timescale.
- Minimum of two years' experience within the last five years working in a residential children's setting in a management or supervisory role.
- Thorough knowledge of the Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills.
- Strong safeguarding knowledge.
- Experience preparing for and managing Ofsted inspections.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Enhanced DBS clearance.
Desirable
- Experience supporting children with complex needs, autism, learning disabilities or emotional and behavioural difficulties.
- Experience of achieving a Good or Outstanding Ofsted rating.
- Budget management experience.
- Therapeutic or trauma-informed training.
