Data and Release Engineer
Meriden West Midlands
Full time office based role five days a week
We are recruiting a Data and Release Engineer to join our team in Meriden. This is a hands on role focused on SQL database administration and the controlled release of software updates through Azure DevOps. You will manage our SQL Server and Azure SQL environments and take responsibility for deploying changes across several business applications.
This position is centred around database reliability, operational stability and repeatable release processes. It is not a data analytics or reporting role. It suits someone who enjoys working with and has experience of platforms, environments, deployments and database performance rather than BI, dashboards or ETL.
What you will do
• Administer and maintain SQL Server and Azure SQL databases
• Carry out tuning, indexing, performance investigation and health checks
• Oversee backups, security, access control and day to day database operations
• Manage Azure DevOps build and release pipelines
• Coordinate deployments across development, test, UAT and production
• Perform pre-release validation, environment checks and post-deployment reviews
• Troubleshoot deployment issues and work with development and support teams to resolve them
• Maintain documentation, runbooks and operational standards
• Contribute to improving automation, environment management and release governance
What you will bring
• Solid SQL knowledge with experience of database administration
• Experience using Azure DevOps and Git for build and release activity
• An interest in platform stability, environments, deployments and operational work
• Familiarity with Azure services or the desire to learn
• A structured approach to problem solving and root cause analysis
• Confidence working in a busy delivery focused environment
• A willingness to develop skills in DBA, DevOps and release engineering
• The ability to work in our Meriden office five days a week
This role focuses on SQL administration, release processes and operational delivery. It does not involve data analysis, BI development or ETL pipeline work although there is opportunities to learn and move into this space in the future. Training and Microsoft certification support is available for early career candidates with the right foundations.
