Cinema Supervisor
This role is based at Nova Cinema, reporting to the Customer Experience Manager and collaborating closely with the Deputy Customer Experience Manager, Duty Managers, Chief Projectionist, and wider cinema team.
It is a multi-skilled operational position that combines customer experience responsibilities with routine projection and technical support duties. You will play a key role in delivering an outstanding cinema experience for our guests, while also ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of projection and technical systems.
Acting as an operational supervisor, you will support Customer Experience Team Members during shifts, providing guidance and maintaining high service standards, while also conducting projection support tasks.
This role requires someone who is confident working across both customer-facing and technical environments, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and a strong commitment to quality.
Flexibility is essential, as the role involves regular evening and weekend work.
Key responsibilities
Operation
- Assist with staff briefings, deployment, and operational communication during shifts, ensuring excellent standards of service are maintained at all times.
- Function as a key operational supervisor within the cinema, ensuring all public areas are safe, clean, presentable, and operating effectively.
- Maintain a strong presence front of house during busy periods, supporting both customers and team members.
- Support the delivery of venue KPIs including spend per head, guest feedback, and operational standards.
- Maintain a detailed knowledge of current film programming, running times, classifications, accessibility performances, and live screenings.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety, licensing, food hygiene, and company procedures.
- Support stock processes, deliveries, stock takes and retail compliance within the cinema operation.
- Manage customer queries and resolve operational issues professionally and efficiently.
Projection and Technical Responsibilities
- Provide routine operational projection support within defined operational procedures and escalation processes.
- Monitor projectors, sound systems, and cinema management systems, responding to routine operational issues and escalating technical faults where appropriate.
- Support cinema content processes including ingesting, scheduling checks, and live event setup in line with operational procedures.
- Conduct routine technical and presentation checks to maintain the highest standards across all screens and cinema spaces.
- Support the delivery of live event screenings, hires and alternative content presentations, including setup activities, in accordance with established procedures and escalation processes.
- Assist with first line troubleshooting of projection, sound, recliner seating, and associated cinema systems.
- Work alongside the Chief Projectionist and Management teams to ensure all screenings start safely and on time.
- Conduct general housekeeping and cleaning within projection and technical areas.
- Maintain safe working practices and respond appropriately to emergencies or technical failures.
- Support and motivate the Customer Experience team leading by example and creating a team culture that strives for excellence and delivering a premium guest experience.
- Assist the Customer Experience Management Team in developing strategies to ensure the venue provides a first-class Customer Experience.
- Cinema Supervisors are not responsible for specialist technical maintenance, systems ownership, or higher-level technical troubleshooting, which remain under the responsibility of the Chief Projectionist role.
Finance & Commercial Awareness
- Support cinema sales initiatives and actively contribute to maximising retail performance.
- Encourage upselling and premium guest experiences through leading by example.
- Assist in controlling wastage and maintaining accurate operational processes.
- Contribute feedback and ideas to improve cinema operations and guest experience.
Relationships and Development
- Build strong working relationships across Customer Experience, Projection, Marketing, and wider venue teams.
- Support the training and development of Customer Experience Team Members within the cinema operation.
- Participate in company-led training and take responsibility for personal development.
- Maintain a flexible and collaborative approach to supporting the wider venue operation where required.
