About the recipient

Applicants required to work with a 15-year-old boy with a diagnosis of autism, AHD, severe learning disability. They also suffer with severe migraines.

The young person is non-verbal. They are affectionate and animated enjoying active activities such as trampolining and enjoys nature and being outside on walks or long drives which help settle and soothe them during a migraine episode.

This young person can display challenging behaviour such as biting themselves and becoming unsettled especially when they are during a migraine. Due to this, applicants would need to strong willed and comfortable with managing such behaviours, these are very rare in the car.

The applicant will need to have experience of SEN and will have to be 25 years of age with a clean license to use the provided vehicle for this young person. The individual will also have to be comfortable with personal care needs.

Hours of work on offer is 6 hours term time 12 in the holidays per week.

• Attending/transporting the individual to social activities and appointments.

• Be patient, caring and understanding.
• Be able to build a positive relationship with the child to both encourage and support them.
• Be flexible to meet the needs of the family.
• Have knowledge of working with or supporting a child with special needs.

Children and Young People, Specialist Services Direct Payments is an in-house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to support families of Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to fulfil their potential and aspirations.

Whilst caring experience is always useful, you don't necessarily need to have worked in care to be a great Direct Payment Worker, the right attitude and a person-centred approach is more important.

Some travel across East Riding of Yorkshire may be required, applicants must be able to transport themselves.
