The job itselfApplicants are required to work as part of a 2:1 staffing team for a 5 year old boy, who is non-verbal with a diagnosis of Autism and high sensory needs.
This young person is very loveable and affectionate and is also very active. He adores swimming and other forms of waterplay. He really enjoys being outside in nature and within open spaces. He enjoys play parks and outdoor areas as it allows him to meet his sensory needs such as spinning items, swinging and spinning around. He also enjoys being out walking with his adapted pushchair.
This young person can display some challenging behaviours at times such as self harm when they become unsettled, agitated or unable to communicate their needs, this can also be directed to adults around them. He can also struggle in very busy environments and wears ear defenders at times to help him regulate. This young person also requires support with intimate personal care and assistance with food/drinks.
Applicants need to be of strong character and willing to work with some challenging behaviours and be comfortable with delivering personal care. Applicants must also be friendly, patient and energetic and able to keep up with a very active young boy. Driving is not essential though desirable. Family can provide use vehicle if necessary.

Additional information Direct PaymentsChildren and Young People, Specialist Services Direct Payments is an in-house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to support families of Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to fulfil their potential and aspirations.
Whilst caring experience is always useful, you don't necessarily need to have worked in care to be a great Direct Payment Worker, the right attitude and a person-centred approach is more important.
TravelSome travel across East Riding of Yorkshire may be required, applicants must be able to transport themselves.
