Hours: 4-day working week

Contract: 1-year fixed term maternity cover post from July 2026

Location: Hybrid Home working and Belfast office, minimum 2 days per week in the office

Charity Jobs NI is delighted to be working in partnership with Live Here Love Here, formerly Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Environmental Education Coordinator on a 1-year fixed term maternity cover contract. This role will support the delivery of the Eco-Schools programme across Northern Ireland.

This opportunity will particularly appeal to candidates currently working as an Environmental Education Officer, Eco-Schools Coordinator, Education Programme Coordinator, Schools Engagement Officer or Learning and Engagement Coordinator, who are passionate about developing high-quality educational resources and inspiring children, young people and schools to take positive environmental action.

This position is funded through the DAERA Environment Fund.

About the Role

The Environmental Education Coordinator will play a key role in the delivery of Live Here Love Heres Environmental Education programme, with a particular focus on coordinating, developing and delivering Eco-Schools resources and workshops.

Working closely with the wider Environmental Education team, you will support the successful delivery of Eco-Schools activity across selected council areas, helping to ensure that agreed targets, service level agreements and Green Flag outcomes are achieved.

This is a varied and purposeful role combining project coordination, resource development, workshop delivery, school engagement and team support. You will develop high-quality, curriculum-linked environmental education resources, coordinate delivery across Field Officers, respond to Eco-Schools enquiries and support schools on their journey towards environmental action.

The role will suit someone who combines strong education experience with excellent organisational skills, creativity, and a genuine passion for sustainability, schools engagement and behaviour change.

Key Responsibilities

Eco-Schools Coordination

• Act as a key Environmental Education point of contact for selected council areas.


• Support delivery against key service level agreements and Eco-Schools Green Flag targets.


• Assess Eco-Schools Green Flag applications and support Field Officer assessments where required.


• Respond to Eco-Schools enquiries in a timely and accurate manner, involving colleagues where needed.


• Coordinate cluster groups, teacher training sessions and clinics to support delivery targets.

Resource and Workshop Development

• Develop high-quality, curriculum-linked environmental education resources with clear learning outcomes.


• Deliver environmental education workshops to schools and other audiences as required.


• Use Canva and other tools to support the development of engaging resources and workshop materials.


• Support Field Officers with the delivery of Environmental Education activity across selected areas.

Programme Delivery and Team Support

• Support the coordination and resourcing of Environmental Education activities and projects.


• Work closely with the Field Officer Line Manager and Environmental Education colleagues to ensure resources are balanced and allocated effectively.


• Collaborate with colleagues across wider environmental education and community engagement programmes.


• Produce targeted communications for schools and support the Communications Team with Eco-Schools newsletter content.


• Fulfil other duties for Live Here Love Here as required.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

• Educated to degree level or at least three years relevant experience.


• At least two years project management or coordination experience.


• Teaching qualification with a minimum of one years teaching experience.


• At least one years experience developing educational resources.


• Experience using Canva for resource and workshop development.


• At least one years experience delivering workshops.


• At least one years staff supervision experience.


• Developed ICT skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Excel.


• Full current driving licence with access to suitable transport.

Desirable

• Post-primary teaching experience.


• Experience using Mailchimp, MIS, CMS or project management software.


• Experience working in the voluntary sector.

Knowledge and Understanding

Desirable

• Knowledge of behaviour change.


• Knowledge of environmental matters.
