We are seeking an experienced Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Manager to play a vital role in safeguarding one of the world's most important cultural and heritage environments. Reporting to the Head of FM Operations and Technical Services, you will lead the delivery of an estate-wide IPM programme that protects collections, buildings and visitor experiences through proactive pest prevention and management.

As the Museum's lead IPM specialist, you will implement and continuously improve the Integrated Pest Management strategy in a Grade I listed building, working closely with colleagues across conservation, collections care, facilities management, exhibitions, capital projects and external contractors. In particular, you will work closely with exhibition teams to provide IPM expertise and support for the Bayeux Tapestry special exhibition. You will drive best practice, coordinate responses to pest risks and incidents, and champion a culture of prevention across the organisation. In collaboration with specialists across the Museum, you will play a key role in maintaining the highest standards of preventive conservation and estate management.

This is an exciting opportunity for a museum, heritage, conservation or collections professional with strong IPM expertise to make a tangible impact across a complex and highly respected cultural institution.

About you

You will bring a combination of technical expertise, stakeholder management skills and a passion for protecting cultural heritage.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience in Heritage Management, Preventive Conservation or a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience managing Integrated Pest Management programmes.
  • Experience working with museum collections or other relevant collections and object handling.
  • Knowledge of common museum pests and effective preventive management approaches.
  • Experience implementing IPM strategies and translating policy into operational practice.
  • Strong communication, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills, ideally with experience of working with external contractors.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Implementation, review and deliver the Museum's IPM strategy and programme, working with stakeholders to develop policies and procedures as required.
  • Monitor, analyze and report pest activity data, including trap mapping and risk assessments.
  • Conduct audits and inspections of collection, public and operational spaces, ensuring consistent delivery of IPM roles and responsibilities.
  • Deliver IPM training and awareness programmes for staff and stakeholders.
  • Advise exhibition, conservation and capital project teams on IPM risks and mitigation measures.
  • Manage pest control contractors, consultants and relevant service providers.
  • Lead responses to pest outbreaks and collection-related emergencies when required.
  • Manage specialist IPM facilities, including isolation and treatment spaces, in line with legislation and best practice.
