The Role

We’re seeking a highly motivated leader for our Race Engine Build team, someone passionate about motorsports with a relentless drive to win. As the Engine Build Supervisor within the Motorsports Propulsion and Performance organization, you will lead a team of race engine builders, cylinder head specialists, and engine machinists to deliver all engines required for the season, including rebuilds, development and validation engines, and post‑race teardowns.

This team also supports development and validation engine builds for our Performance Parts and Marine & Industrial groups. The ideal candidate thrives in the fast pace and unpredictability of racing, adapts quickly to last‑minute changes, and keeps the team aligned, focused, and producing championship‑caliber engines.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead a team of race engine builders, cylinder head specialists, and engine machinists to deliver all engines required for the season—including rebuilds, development/validation engines, and teardowns. Supported engine platforms include Cadillac LMDh, Corvette GT3, Pro‑Spec, Pro‑Lite off‑road, and others. The team also supports development, and validation builds for Performance Parts and Marine & Industrial programs.
  • Oversee the cylinder head team responsible for all race‑engine cylinder heads, as well as heads used in production of the ZZ632 1,000hp crate engine and CNC‑ported variants of LS3, LS9, and LT1 cylinder heads sold as Chevy Performance Parts.
  • Manage machinists performing finish‑machining on racing engine blocks and crankshaft balancing.
  • Balance workload and coordinate activities across logistics, machining, engine build, and the dyno test lab to ensure 100% on time delivery of all race engines with zero on‑track engine failures.
  • Respond rapidly to engine content changes driven by race‑season learnings and implement updates throughout the program.
  • Support hardware changes at the track when last‑minute insights require adjustments.
  • Develop and mentor team members, ensuring they receive the training, coaching, and support necessary to excel in current roles and progress toward career goals.
  • Lead hiring efforts to bring on additional experienced engine builders and machinists as business needs evolve.
  • Partner with Quality Engineering to implement a formal quality system within the engine build area.
  • Support the rollout and adoption of ERP tools across Operations, driving full traceability of all race engine components.
  • Expand the use of Atlas Copco torque tools across engine programs to enhance consistency and build quality.
  • Collaborate closely with racing engineers as one team to continuously refine and improve race engine performance.
  • Provide input into lab operations and capital budget planning.
  • Ensure safety, ergonomics, and quality across the entire engine build area.
  • Maintain strong housekeeping standards, adherence to WPO processes, and compliance with all environmental requirements.
  • Oversee calibration and maintenance of tools, equipment, and supplies essential to daily operations.
  • Adapt effectively to a fast‑changing work environment with shifting priorities and competing demands.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with team members, leadership, and cross‑functional partners.

What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • 7+ years of professional engineering experience
  • Extensive experience in high‑performance engine development, testing, and validation
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple complex projects, driving timely issue resolution and results‑focused outcomes
  • Strong collaboration and relationship‑building skills to apply across motorsports and performance teams, suppliers, and customers
  • DFSS Black Belt certified (Design for Six Sigma)

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Previous experience in professional racing
  • Previous leadership experience
