SOUTHWEST COLLEGE Part Time Lecturer 01 APRIL 2026 Job Title: Part Time Lecturer (A register will be created for part-time teaching hours available until June 2026) Responsible to: Head of Department/ Deputy Head of Department Location: Campus at Omagh or Cookstown or Dungannon or Erne or Technology & Skills Centre Main Duties and Responsibilities To teach subjects as directed by the Head of Department/Deputy Head of Department to standards and quality defined by the College and, where applicable, the Awarding Organisation. To follow schemes of work within the agreed subject areas, as defined by the Head of Department. The Post holder should devise their own scheme to be agreed with Head of Department. To set course work for completion by candidates as required by the curriculum, to assess and provide feedback on that work in the manner prescribed by the Awarding Organisation. To provide help and support to all candidates in a supportive manner, bearing in mind their individual needs and abilities, the requirements of the Awarding Organisation and the availability of time. To prepare for classes in a thorough and professional manner. To act as a course co-ordinator if required To undertake assessor and verifier duties if required. To act as a class tutor to a group of students as required. To organise and supervise work placements, if required. To complete and return all administrative records accurately and ensure they are kept up to date in accordance with the requirements of the College, the Department for the Economy and Awarding Bodies. To follow College procedures in all matters of which chief examples are Safeguarding, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Employee Standards and Ethical Practice, Health & Safety, Assessment Policy and Student Disciplinary Procedures. To attend any relevant meetings organised by the College for the smooth running of the Department and the teaching of the agreed subjects. Attend meetings on matters relating to student progress and pastoral care, course co-ordination, management, assessment, and development. To contribute to the review and evaluation of the curriculum provision. To contribute to curriculum development initiatives within the Department with regard to the subjects being taught. To participate in staff development activities, as organised by the College and agreed with the Head of Department/Deputy Head of Department/Curriculum Manager. To direct and co-operate with Support staff as appropriate to ensure the highest quality of teaching and learning and the smooth running of all aspects of a course. To liaise with external examiners, moderators, and verifiers if required. To co-operate with the Head of Department/Deputy Head/Curriculum Manager and other staff, to ensure standards are maintained and the learners receive an excellent teaching and learning experience. To participate in the marketing of and recruitment to courses within the subject/programme area, including the interviewing of students, attendance at parents evenings, prize-giving, open days, awards ceremonies and other similar departmental/college events. To attend all required induction and other training programmes as required by Human Resources and the Advanced Practitioner for Teaching and Learning. General Duties To promote and raise the profile of the College and the services it provides to the local business and civic community. To contribute to college quality assurance systems. At all times to observe all internal College policies and procedures. This job description is not prescriptive, and the post holder may be expected to undertake other duties appropriate to the grade as may be assigned by the Chief Executive or nominated officer(s). Terms and Conditions of Service All terms and conditions of employment for this post are those as laid down by the Colleges Employers Forum Lecturing negotiating committee. There are three rates of pay for part-time lecturing and the rate is determined by the level of subject taught: Grade 5 £27.91 per hour Grade 4 - £37.73 per hour Grade 3 - £44.04 per hour Please note that hourly rates for timetabled hours includes class preparation and marking time. There is no additional time allocation for preparation and marking. The post of Part-Time Lecturer is regarded as a regulated position under the protection of The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007. South West College is an equal opportunity employer.
