Make a difference through great people experience

We’re looking for a People Experience Officer to join our People Team, with Employee Relations at the heart of the role.

This is an opportunity to join a team that supports managers and employees across the organisation, helping us create a positive, fair and consistent experience for our people.

What will you be doing?

Employee Relations casework will be your primary focus. You’ll manage your own portfolio of cases and provide trusted advice and support to managers throughout the process.

Your caseload will include matters such as:

  • Disciplinary and grievance cases
  • Capability and performance matters
  • Probation
  • Attendance and sickness absence
  • Flexible working and family-friendly matters
  • Informal workplace concerns

You’ll work closely with managers to help them understand policy, procedure and potential risk, ensuring cases are managed consistently, appropriately and in line with employment legislation and our organisational values. You’ll also prepare case documentation, maintain accurate records and ensure more complex or high-risk matters are escalated appropriately.

But this role is about more than casework.

You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to the wider employee experience, supporting wellbeing, engagement, recognition and culture initiatives, as well as employee voice and feedback activities. You’ll help us understand what our people are telling us and turn that insight into meaningful improvements.

Good ER support is about spotting patterns as well as managing individual cases.

You’ll produce casework reports and management information, monitor trends and identify recurring issues, sharing your insight with the wider People Team to help shape improvements across the organisation.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone with solid experience in Employee Relations or HR advisory work, who is comfortable managing cases and providing advice to managers and employees.

You’ll need:

  • Experience of managing employee relations casework and providing an advisory service
  • Experience managing conduct, grievance and performance cases
  • A strong working knowledge of UK employment law
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong negotiation and conflict-management skills
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and a varied caseload
  • Confidence to challenge, influence and provide sound advice when needed
  • Relevant professional qualifications, or demonstrable equivalent experience.

Experience within social care or the not-for-profit sector would be advantageous, as would experience of HR systems, policy development, trade union partnership working, restructures and redundancies.

Why this role?

This is a great opportunity for an experienced HR/ER professional who wants to be part of a people-focused team where their advice, judgement and ideas can have a real impact.

You’ll have the opportunity to work across a broad range of employee relations matters while also contributing to the bigger picture – helping us strengthen our policies and processes, improve employee experience and build a positive workplace culture.

What we offer

In return, you'll join a supportive team where your contribution is valued and your development is encouraged. We offer:

  • Hybrid working to support a healthy work-life balance.
  • Generous paid annual leave.
  • Learning and development opportunities to help you grow your career.
  • Access to wellbeing support and employee initiatives.
  • A collaborative and inclusive working environment where continuous improvement is encouraged.

Why join Avenues?

At Avenues, you'll be part of an organisation that's committed to improving lives through innovation, collaboration and continuous learning. We invest in our people, encourage professional development and give you the opportunity to make a genuine difference.

If you’re pragmatic, approachable and confident in your ER knowledge, and you enjoy working in partnership with managers to find the right way forward, we’d love to hear from you.

As part of our commitment to the “Disability Confident Scheme”, candidates who declare a disability, and meet the key criteria for this role, will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities at interview stage.

We reserve the right to close a vacancy before the closing date in the event of an overwhelming response or a change in business priorities.
