Senior Legal Counsel – Regulatory & Product

SSQ is partnering with a fast-growing, award-winning UK fintech wealth platform to appoint a Senior Legal Counsel to support its Product and Commercial teams.
This role sits within the Legal function and provides strategic, non-contentious financial services regulatory advice to a scaling, technology-driven business operating in a highly regulated environment. The position plays a key role in enabling the development and launch of new products and services, ensuring regulatory compliance while supporting ambitious commercial growth.
Reporting directly into the Head of Legal (Commercial & Product), this is a high-visibility role offering broad regulatory exposure and genuine opportunity to shape legal processes as the business continues to scale.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide proactive, strategic legal advice on financial services regulatory matters, supporting the rollout of new products, features, promotions and services from initial concept through to launch.
Advise on UK financial services regulation including FCA Handbook requirements (BCOBS, Consumer Duty, CASS), FSMA, financial promotions and wider consumer protection and data protection matters.
Identify and mitigate product, regulatory and privacy risks, developing pragmatic and commercially aligned solutions within a complex regulatory framework.
Draft and update customer-facing terms and conditions and advise on product documentation.
Support wider commercial matters, including drafting, negotiating and advising on supplier, banking partner, marketing and IT procurement agreements.
Partner closely with Compliance in responding to FCA queries and regulatory engagement.
Monitor legal and regulatory developments, assessing business impact and advising senior stakeholders proactively.
Deliver training and guidance to business teams on regulatory and legal matters.
Manage relationships with external legal advisers and contribute to the development of scalable legal processes as the function grows.
Candidate Requirements:
Qualified lawyer in England & Wales with 7+ years’ post-qualification experience
Strong financial services regulatory background, ideally gained at a leading law firm, with in-house experience in a fast-paced or high-growth environment viewed favourably.
Excellent knowledge of FCA regulatory frameworks, including Consumer Duty, CASS, BCOBS, financial promotions and broader UK consumer protection and data protection requirements.
Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to explain complex regulatory concepts clearly to non-legal audiences.
