We're looking for hard-working and out-of-the-box thinkers from all software engineering disciplines to bring new perspective and fresh ideas to the Symbology UK team that is responsible for the integration, storage, and publishing of securities reference data and corporate events information that support critical commercial content integration functions and is itself relied on by FactSet's client base. Symbology engineers strive to understand the details of complex financial markets to provide the business with timely, accurate, and fast answers to fundamental questions about the instruments and events occurring within those markets billions of times per day.

Responsibilities:

As a Software Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Designing, developing and maintaining backend content update systems using Perl/Python/C++ and Microsoft SQL Server

  • Analyze complex datasets and implement data transformation best practices to ensure efficiency, reliability, and quality of data movement.

  • Making strong technical contributions to projects with a focus on new enhancements, stability, and performance.

  • Supporting On Call during UK business hours on a weekly rotation basis as well as out of hours in the events of escalations for product areas you lead

  • Actively participating in code reviews, technical discussions and stakeholders' meetings

  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering and suggest process improvements to enhance system performance and reliability.

  • Being self-driven, working closely with the team lead, and taking responsibility for independent project execution

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in software development with a focus on data pipelines and web services

  • Experience with modern development workflows, including version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines.

Critical Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Strong knowledge of Perl, Python and Microsoft SQL Server

  • Solid track record of designing and building robust software solutions

  • Strong technical, analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills

  • Familiarity with RESTful API design and development

Additional Skills:

  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to articulate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audience

  • Ability to tune database queries and workloads for improving performance and scale will be highly desired

  • Ability to onboard and apply internal systems and processes for developing and deploying robust software​ solutions

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
