Company

Vickerstock are working exclusively with a leading engineering and manufacturing business in the recruitment of a Quality Engineer for their Mid Tyrone operation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quality Engineer to join a developing Quality function within a complex heavy machinery manufacturing environment. Working closely with the Quality Manager, you will have a broad remit across manufacturing quality, product inspection and testing, customer quality and continuous improvement.

We are particularly interested in speaking with Quality Engineers who enjoy being close to the manufacturing process and want a role where they can identify problems, lead investigations and implement improvements rather than simply report on quality performance.

The Role of Quality Engineer

Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will take responsibility for operational quality assurance throughout the manufacturing process, from the receipt of materials through production, final machine testing and commissioning, and ultimately customer and field quality feedback.

The position will involve working closely with Operations, Stores and Procurement to improve right-first-time performance, reduce defects and develop more robust quality controls throughout the manufacturing process.

You will also play an important role in developing inspection standards, improving machine testing and commissioning processes, and using customer and field feedback to drive improvements in both product quality and manufacturing capability.

Key Responsibilities for this Quality Engineer position

  • Lead manufacturing quality assurance activities and support production teams in achieving right-first-time performance.
  • Develop and maintain product quality standards, inspection criteria and quality control plans.
  • Establish and monitor inspection points throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Conduct process capability assessments and identify opportunities to improve manufacturing quality.
  • Implement mistake-proofing and defect prevention measures.
  • Lead final machine inspection and support the development of testing and commissioning standards.
  • Ensure finished equipment meets engineering specifications and customer requirements prior to dispatch.
  • Manage customer quality investigations and support warranty and field failure analysis.
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective and preventive actions.
  • Analyse quality data to identify trends, recurring defects and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support Kaizen and Continuous Improvement activities focused on quality, rework and defect reduction.
  • Develop digital inspection processes, dashboards and quality reporting to improve defect visibility and decision making.

Essential Criteria for this Quality Engineer position

  • Previous Quality Engineering experience within a metal manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • A strong understanding of manufacturing quality assurance and in-process quality control.
  • Experience of root cause analysis, corrective actions and quality problem-solving techniques.
  • A good understanding of fabrication, welding, assembly and testing processes.
  • Experience working with quality data and statistical analysis.
  • Exposure to customer and/or supplier quality.
  • Degree or HND within Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality or a related discipline.

Experience within heavy engineering, machinery manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, construction equipment or another complex manufacturing environment would be particularly relevant. Experience of assembly operations incorporating fabrication, machined components, hydraulics, electrical and electronic systems would also be advantageous.

If you are an experienced Quality Engineer, Manufacturing Quality Engineer, Supplier Quality Engineer or Senior Quality Technician looking for a broader Quality Engineering position within a complex manufacturing environment, this could represent an excellent next step in your career.

To apply for this Quality Engineer position, please submit your CV or contact Hugh Nugent at Vickerstock for a confidential discussion. All approaches will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
