The University of Central Lancashire wishes to recruit a Technical Officer to join our Technical Services team who provide support to the wide variety of laboratories at our Preston campus. The successful candidate will be primarily focussed on supporting Undergraduate and Postgraduate Veterinary & Clinical laboratory activities within our state-of-the-art science laboratory and clinical facilities in our new School of Veterinary science and in also our Clinical skills facility.
Duties will include supervising staff, project management, procurement, carrying out risk assessments and other relevant H&S polices and procedures, providing day to day technical support, training and giving advice to staff and to students studying veterinary Science & Clinical skills
To provide help, support, guidance and advice, for example through demonstrations or inductions to staff and/or students in a group or individually, on the use of equipment and the skills, techniques and procedures associated with the practical use of equipment related to veterinary science or clinical skills.
To liaise with the Technical team, academic and service staff to monitor and develop the service in line with academic requirements and University objectives.
About you:
The successful applicant will have experience of leading teams and have the ability to motivate others. You will also have extensive experience in working in either a clinical or veterinary setting. You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise with colleagues, staff and students and have the ability to plan, prioritise and organise your own workload and also that of others. You will need to be a practical person with a keen interest in science and technology and be IT literate and have a working knowledge of veterinary/clinical equipment, supported by great customer service skills. A degree of manual handling may be involved e.g. lifting and carrying clinical/veterinary equipment. A flexible approach is required to weekly working patterns due to the student timetable. You will be educated to undergraduate degree level in either setting or have equivalent industry experience.
